PPC is not a luck but skills, directly proportional to you or your client's budget, However it can be very expensive if not do correctly.
Before launching campaigns:
If you have limited budget jump directly in manual instead of Auto,,
Do proper Keywords and competitor research and listen how to use them,
Sort all the keywords in excel with High SV.
Make 3 sets of them on Search volume basis (High, Mid and low)
In competitors find just those competitors whose ratings are equal to or lower than 4.4 and price is higher than you, target them in Exact not expandable Product targeting, your price should be on break even in the start,
During Campaigns launching:
Target your prepared sets in 3 different types of campaigns
1: High SV keywords in Broad with 20% lower bids than suggested
2: Mid SV keywords in Phrase with suggested bids
3: Low SV keywords in Exact with 20% higher bids than suggested

Targeting High SV keywords in Broad and phrase will help you increase your product visibility on a good number of search terms that you could miss in Kwd research.
While targeting Low SV kwds in Exact will help you catch low hanging fruit and rank on that kwds with low budget, that type of keywords also cover your main keywords.
